Annecy 08
.

Me and Olga went on an amazing trip this past June. My student film, Key Lime Pie, was selected for competition in Annecy, which gave me an excuse to pack my bags and check out France for a week. Ive posted some pics and sketches from my trip.

For a moment I forgot how to spell Annecy..I had to write it down three times with varying amounts of "N's" and "C's", and eventually some sort of visual trigger went off and I was able to circle the correct spelling. I was so proud of myself..

On the way home, this man was escorted off our plane by federal agents. They spent 20 minutes cleaning his seat afterwards. It was odd.
I swear these two were clones. They were looking at softcore porn on the plane and were quite comfortable doing so. It was humbling.

Based on a True Story.

So thats supposed to be Olga.
One day, Olga had this dream about tomato sour dough bread...which I don't think actually exists. Anyway, she was really groggy and tired when she was explaining this concept to me one morning, slurring words and not really making any sense. Luckily I was taking notes the whole time.
So then I got to drawing, and I gave her sharp teeth(which signify some sort of intense appetite or hunger). Her eyes are indeed focused on what appears to be sour dough bread with fresh tomato slices on top. So im like, yeah..its all coming together. All it needs now is some purple text. So I did that too, and voila...I make art.

BLOOOOG VOOOMMMITTTTTTTTT!!!

Me and some friends tried to start a sketchblog called Latin American Dictator Sandwiches. Jeff was the only brave soul to post something. I finally scanned mine in after drawing it 4 1/2 months ago. Anyway...I think one day well get that sucker going. Till then, you can check out two whole sketches at http://www.fidelonrye.blogspot.com/

SO this is old news to some, but the Raptors lost in 6 games to their first round playoff opponent..the New Jersey Nets(They should relocate to Maryland and call themselves the Baltimore Basketballs!)So began a 5 month depression, where I couldn't eat, sleep, or draw. I did however start working..at a place called the House of Cool. And we just got a new website, so check it out:
All those thingys above these words are pages from my sketchbook this summer. I know I havent been posting, but it hasn't stopped me from drawing, or thinking of more film ideas.
In fact, Ive got another one on the way. Its called the Bermuda Triangle, and lotsa stuff happens in it.
For those who want to know, "Key Lime Pie" has been doing really well. So far its played at the Toronto International Film festival student showcase, The Montreal World Film Festival, Cinefest Sudbury, Ottawa International Animation festival, Barrie Film festival, and it will be playing at the Toronto After Dark Festival(http://www.torontoafterdark.com/) next wednesday Oct 24th, before the feature "Nightmare Detectives" at the Bloor Cinema, and the AFI filmfest in LA(http://www.afi.com/), as well as making an appearance in STASH DVD magazine for issue 38.
It picked up a best cinematography award at the TIFF student showcase, and 1st place in the most promising student category at the Teletoon scholarships. Overall the response has been really great..and more than anything, really encouraging.
Other than that, my summer was good...i moved to downtown Toronto, and I live with a tall Irish guy.

thats a wrap

Well, i figured i had to post something to coincide with the end of my college career. 5 years..what can one say? A picture's worth a thousand words, i wonder what a 3:32 short film with 24 pictures per second is worth?
I guess the answer should be in there somewhere.
To my classmates, and my good friends...congrats on finishing your time here. I wish you all the best in whatever you choose to do,
its been something else.

The Good Ol Days
NBA season is starting up soon, and im feeling optimistic about my Toronto Raptors this year..Ive been watching them religiously since 1995 when they first came into the league, back when this guy was manning the paint for them. I remember lining up for an hour to get "The Big O's" autograph at the Sports Authority grand opening where I used to live only to find out that he had cancelled his signing. Tracy Murray showed up instead and signed my free sports authority hat, which is probably kicking around in my Mom's basement somewhere. Anyway, just wanted to share a thought completely unrelated to art or film. Go Raptors.
